History of InciSioN
InciSioN Global
InciSioN, the International Student Surgical Network, is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to medical and public health students, as well as trainees and early-career professionals (within five years of practice), who are engaged in the care of surgical patients worldwide.
Founded informally in 2014, InciSioN officially became a recognised organisation in March 2016. Since then, it has grown into a prominent network supporting those involved in surgical care on a global scale.

Today, InciSioN represents over 5,000 members across more than 80 countries, with 50+ fully established National Working Groups (NWGs) spanning all global regions.
InciSioN is dedicated to the equitable development of future generations of global surgeons, anaesthesiologists, obstetricians, and other healthcare professionals. The organisation strives to ensure that safe, equitable, and timely surgical care is accessible to all, everywhere.

Establishment of InciSioN Australasia
InciSioN Australasia is the official National Working Group (NWG) representing Australia and New Zealand within the global InciSioN network. It operates in affiliation with the Australasian Students’ Surgical Association (ASSA), and is therefore also known as ASSA Global Surgery.
Founded in 2019, ASSA Global Surgery (InciSioN Australasia) was established by a dedicated group of medical students from across Australia and New Zealand, united by a shared commitment to Global Surgery and a collective mission to advocate for equitable access to surgical care worldwide.
Our mission is to inspire the next generation of clinicians to think beyond borders and be part of the movement to make surgery safe and accessible for all.
